My name is Amrit. I help build products and organizations that other people find useful. Areas with high barriers to entry and unfair access are interesting to me. I’m interested in and have worked in the following areas:

  • Financial technology — via Square and M-PESA
  • Private encrypted communication — WhatsApp
  • Economic utilities — WhatsApp Business
  • Access to capital — affordable loans delivered to entrepreneurs in Kenya.

Before WhatsApp, I led and started products at Square. I got started at a startup in sub-saharan Africa and have lived between Kenya, India, Seattle and San Francisco. Outside work, I am a fellow at a FinTech Research Institute at University of California and Product School, San Francisco.

In my free time, I speak and read about product management. I’m quite passionate and work on issues on housing, socio-economic mobility and more access to finance and tools.
